Land owners’ obstruction case postponed to June 9
The Mukah Magistrate’s Court has postponed the hearing of a case
involving eight native landowners from Ulu Mukah, charged with
obstructing a company from extracting sand, to June 9 and10.
The
trial was initially scheduled for yesterday morning but the court was
told that the prosecuting officer had been transferred.
As a new prosecuting officer is taking over the case, the prosecution sought for an adjournment.
The
landowners are charged with obstructing the company from extracting
sand from the river as they alleged that the extraction could cause soil
erosion and threaten the safety of their longhouses which are located
at the river bank.
The landowners were represented by counsels Abdul Raafidin Mahidi and Jamilah Baharuddin.
